Rock Hill, South Carolina
A gathering place rooted in the living heritage of the Catawba Nation — where every meal is an offering of gratitude, every guest is family, and every tradition is honored.
Our Story
Catawba Indian Conservation is more than a restaurant — it is a living expression of the Catawba Nation's enduring spirit. Located in the heart of Rock Hill, South Carolina, we are a place where history is not simply remembered, but tasted, shared, and carried forward.
Our name speaks to something deeper than a building or a menu. It speaks to the land that has sustained the Catawba people for thousands of years, to the hands that have cultivated crops and passed down recipes through generations, and to the community that gathers here to honor what has endured.
When you walk through our doors, you are stepping into a space that belongs to a living tradition — one that welcomes all who approach with an open heart and a respectful spirit.
"We do not simply serve food. We offer a seat at our table — and that is a sacred thing."
Heritage & Tradition
The Catawba people — the "River People" — have called this region home for millennia. Our conservation is not only about preserving the past; it is about nurturing a future where ancestral knowledge, language, and culinary traditions continue to thrive.
Through food, ceremony, and community, we keep the Catawba language, stories, and ways of knowing alive — not as relics, but as living practices that guide us today.
Our table is open to everyone. We believe that sharing a meal is one of the most powerful ways to build understanding, honor difference, and create belonging.
We draw from the native plants, grains, and ingredients that have grown in this region for generations — honoring the earth that has always sustained us.
The Experience
Every dish that leaves our kitchen carries the weight and warmth of centuries. We prepare meals using techniques and ingredients passed down through Catawba generations — the Three Sisters of corn, beans, and squash; wild greens gathered from the Piedmont; game and fish from the rivers that gave our people their name.
Our menu changes with the seasons, because that is how the land teaches us to live. What we serve is simple, honest, and deeply intentional — each element chosen with respect for the hands that grew it and the hands that will receive it.
Whether you are joining us for a quiet meal or a gathering with loved ones, we invite you to slow down, savor, and remember that every meal is a gift.
Community & Purpose
Catawba Indian Conservation exists to support the cultural, educational, and economic future of the Catawba Nation. Every visit, every gathering, every meal contributes to a larger purpose: keeping a living culture alive for the generations yet to come.
A portion of every visit supports Catawba language revitalization programs, youth education, and cultural workshops that ensure our stories and ways of speaking are passed to the next generation.
Our conservation mission includes the protection of sacred sites, native habitats, and the traditional lands that have sustained the Catawba people. We believe caring for the earth is a spiritual act.
We host gatherings, feasts, and cultural celebrations throughout the year — open to all who wish to learn, participate, and share in the richness of Catawba traditions.
From seed to table, our work is guided by the understanding that food is memory, food is relationship, and food is one of the most powerful ways to keep a culture alive.
